A Framework for Developing a 3d Graphic Query System on a Generic Product Model Repository

In this paper, we (1) outline a framework for developing a 3D graphic query system (3D GQS) that allows end-users to manage and query a product model repository (PMR) management system in 3D-graphic; and (2) introduce a prototype 3D GQS (Graphic Query System) development. The prototype 3D GQS uses the CIS/2 PMR, a data repository for the steel construction industry developed by Georgia Tech. A 3D GQS embeds a generic visualizer that can display different types of 3D geometric representations (e.g., B-rep and CSG). A relational database management system (RDBMS) has been used as a backend PMR management system. We discuss several critical development issues in linking a 3D GQS and a RDBMS-based PMR system.
